RENO 2010

Just a mediocre tournament for me. Only paired Dwayne (Keylime) about half the time. Had two pick-up partners and was able to play B strats due to averaging MPs. Some success with one (8 MP), no success with other (but we had neat agreements).

Next tournament, Virgina Beach Regional in November.

Washington DC 2009 NABC

We entered the 0 - 5000 MP Spingold with a pair from Israel (Granddad and grandson, 17 who is being mentored for the Junior Israel Team). We lost by 7 imps and someone on the team doubled 2H for -470 and 8 imp loss. This is a BIG NO-NO!

In a Regional KO we were 2nd and then faded in Pairs on Saturday and headed home after a week at the alternate hotel for $99 a night plus entry fees paid by relocating.

We used C Cubed (Copious Canape Club) with 2 new ideas:

(1) 1C - 1NT = (a) 8+ hcp & GF 5-4 or better in the majors, or (b) 4=4=4=1 or 4=4=1=4

(2) 1C - 2C = (a) 8+ hcp & GF with one or both minors, or (b) 1=4=4=4 or 4=1=4=4

Raleigh Super Bowl Sectional - January 2009

After a warm up pairs game on Thursday evening, we did well with Ultra (Keylime & PrecisionL):

1st Open Pairs w 65% (winning 12 Silver MP)

1st KO I winning 10 Silver MP (leading at half of semi-final KO 61-0)

8th Swiss - We faded the last two rounds (another 2 SMP).

Slam bidding on Thursday was only 50%, much better the rest of the Sectional.

Nashville NABC

Nashville 7/23/07

We took a 6-man team to the 0-5000 Spingold KO with high hopes. We played 3/4 sessions and always drew their top pair who were a little obnoxious, #4 seed. We lost by 6 imps. Ultra did well, no missed slams.

Then we played the NABC Open Pairs. 52 Pairs Qualified to the finals we were #52, but our section had more than 50% Qualifiers, so someone with a lower score than us were an at-large qualifier in our place.

The good news: we got to play with friends from Knoxville and won 20 Gold Points, but missed getting a Blue Ribbon Qualification for Dwayne. I have 16 blue and 7 red.

Favorite Strong Club System

After Dwayne and I combined ideas to from a new partnership earlier this year, we discovered that some of our ideas were similar to Sabine Auken's system as described in her book: "I Love This Game." We call our version The ULTRA CLUB. We maintain the 'living document' on Google's "Docs & Spreadsheets" web pages.

The Precision Club was not a new idea by C. C. Wei, a similar system was described in Margery Burns' book "The Nottingham System of Contract Bridge," 1954, 1959, 1969. I played this version at the Nottingham Bridge Club in England, in 1999. In 1963 a private publication in Memphis, TN, USA was the TRI-S System combining Schenken's ideas (similar to the Vanderbilt Club Convention) with Sheinwold's (and Kaplan's) weak NT and 5-card majors. I don't remember the other S to complete the Tri-S System.
